10th International Symposium SYMKOM 2011 followed the tradition of meetings of people who conduct scientific, research and development activities in the field of turbomachinery: turbines, compressors, pumps, as well as modern power engineering technologies.
The problem scope of SYMKOM 2011 was focused on the following main topics:
- numerical flow simulations as well as application of new models in the field of turbomachines; experimental verification of their results;
- problems of flow unsteadiness, rotor - stator interaction, noise and surge investigations;
- turbomachine rotordynamics;
- metrology of flow phenomena in turbomachines;
- turbomachinery design and manufacturing technologies; revamp and retrofit of turbines, compressors and pumps;
- turbomachinery maintenance problems;
- thermodynamics of turbomachines, new highly efficient energy and heat generating cycles;
- turbomachines for ‘green energy’ generation;
- AOB of turbomachinery.
Plenary and poster sessions were introduced by keynote speeches delivered by eminent specialists recognized in various fields of turbomachines and representing the world of science and industry.
The Symposium was preceded by the SYMKOM WORKSHOP addressed to young researchers and PhD students who would like to broaden their practical knowledge and experience in solving complex computational tasks in CFD with the most up-dated software (ANSYS CFX).
For the symposium venue, we have chosen the Grand Hotel in the city heart, in the famous Piotrkowska Street. For an evening reception, our time machine took us to the former textile empire of Izrael Poznanski, where the unique atmosphere of the 19th century could be still touched and tasted.
